Turning pro at the age of 17 requires more than just raw talent. It takes sacrifice, dedication, and the right gear. Sprinter Kaylin Whitney knows a thing or two about all of those, and she sat down with us to discuss just what she needs in order to race in the big leagues. We’ve got a breakdown of her must-have shoes and clothing so you can get the best to be your best.
Step 1: Train
“I like my trainers, the Nike Pegasus, because they’re very supportive, but they’re lightweight. I like having the feel where I can still lift my knees up and run as fast as I need to without having to worry about my shoes.”
The support Kaylin craves comes from Dynamic Flywire cables in the shoe’s upper. Integrated into the laces, these Flywire cables can be tightened and adjusted to create your perfect fit, making the Air Zoom Pegasus 32 your very own, custom-made running shoe.
Step 2: Warm-up
“I always wear full-length tights when I’m warming up for a race, just because it helps my body warm up faster and it keeps my body warm. A lot of people, during the middle of a warm-up, will sit down and drink water, and they’ll rest for five minutes, but they’re cold. Wearing long tights helps keep my muscles warm and helps with muscle stimulation, as well.”
No matter your style preference, we have tights from The Swoosh to fit your needs. From sleek black to bright colors and patterns, we’ve got you — and your muscles — covered.
Step 3: Race
“I use the JA Flys, mostly because they support my feet when I run and they wrap around my feet really nice. It’s a good, tight fit, but it’s not suffocating my foot. It gives me a natural step when I run.”
Flywire cables make another appearance in Kaylin’s track spike of choice — which should tell you something. Combine that custom lockdown with an aggressive eight-spike plate, and you’ve got yourself one high-speed racing machine.
